Home Care in Thaxted: Helping You Stay Independent at Home

Mar 14, 2025 | Local Care Guides

Here to Care Professional Home Care Saffron Walden Essex

Thaxted is one of the loveliest small towns in north west Essex, with its Guildhall, windmill and great church on the hill. It is also a place many people have lived for decades and have no wish to leave. Here to Care helps older and disabled adults in Thaxted and the nearby villages to keep living in their own homes, safely and comfortably, with support that fits around them.

Local carers who know the area

We are based in Saffron Walden, a short drive from Thaxted, and our carers live and work locally. That means visits that run on time, carers who know the roads and the community, and the same familiar faces as far as possible.

Home care services in Thaxted

Every care plan is built around the person. Depending on what is needed, we can help with:

  • Personal care: washing, bathing, dressing, getting up in the morning and settling into bed at night, given with dignity and respect.
  • Medication support: reminders and help to take medication at the right times.
  • Dementia care: patient, consistent support built around familiar routines.
  • Companionship and home help: shopping, preparing meals, light housework, laundry, conversation and outings.
  • End of life care: compassionate care for someone who wishes to spend their final weeks and months at home.

Visits that suit you

Visits can be a regular half-hour slot or longer, and at times that suit you. Our carers visit seven days a week, between 7am and 10pm. Whether you need a morning visit to help you start the day, a lunchtime meal, or someone to help you get ready for bed, we will work out a pattern that makes sense.

Staying part of the Thaxted community

Living well is about more than personal care. Our companionship visits can include a walk into town, a trip to the shops, a coffee out, or help getting to appointments. Keeping up with friends and familiar places makes a real difference to wellbeing, particularly for people who live alone.

Support for families

Many of the families we work with live some distance away, or are juggling work and children alongside caring for a parent. Knowing that a trusted local carer is calling in gives real peace of mind, and gives family carers time to rest.

Paying for care

Thaxted is in Uttlesford, so care assessments are carried out by Essex County Council. Some people self-fund their care, some receive council funding, and many use Attendance Allowance to help with costs. Our guide to paying for home care in Essex explains the options.

Rated Good by the CQC

Here to Care is rated Good by the Care Quality Commission in all five areas it inspects: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

Other areas we cover

As well as Thaxted, we support people in Saffron Walden, Newport, Clavering, Ashdon, the Chesterfords, Linton, Sawston, Duxford, Haverhill and many villages in between.
